Is Milk Good For You?

Is milk good for you? Our government says yes, but most scientists who do not work for the dairy industry say no. Why the discrepancy? Let’s look at the research.

Though most people still think that milk is good for their bones, there is no evidence for this. The famous Harvard Nurses Study followed more than 77,000 women for over twelve years. Among other things, researchers wanted to see if milk would help prevent or slow the progression of osteoporosis (a disease that makes bones more brittle). Kradjian of Seton Medical Center in California points out that “Fracture rates were higher for those who consumed three or more servings, compared to those who did not drink milk.”

Some scientists now believe that the particular types of proteins in milk may lead to bone damage. In addition, most agree that the calcium found in dairy products isn’t very absorbable for humans. Calcium found in plants is much easier to absorb. These sources include leafy green vegetables, as well as sesame butter (used in humus), some other seeds, whole grains and nuts.

Since you’re eating more meals, you need to eat smaller meals. A popular way to do this is to take smaller meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and supplement them with two nutritious snacks of around 100 calories. Those snacks are then eaten during the biggest gaps between meals, typically between each of the main meals or one between lunch and dinner and the other before bedtime.

Try this approach and see the results for yourself. Chances are you’ll be a lot closer to getting as fit as you desire.

Protein
Protein allows 11% of total calories in Nutramigen. The hypoallergenic protein source is extensively hydrolysed casein that is added on with three amino acids—L-cystine, L-tyrosine, and L-tryptophan—to provide an right balance of amino acids to the baby. The protein source provides a high percentage of free amino acids with the remainder as small peptides. The protein efficiency ratio (PER) for Nutramigen is greater than the PER for casein. So, the protein in Nutramigen LIPIL is of very superiority.

Safety and Tolerance
Because of the special features of Nutramigen, it does not taste like cow's milk and soy-based formulas; nevertheless, most babies quickly adapt to the taste. A study evaluated babies’ reactions to Nutramigen as a novel food at 1-2 months of age or 7-8 months of age. Infants <2 months of age showed a small reduction in intake of Nutramigen compared with their regular formula but continued to drink substantial and satiating amounts of Nutramigen. Older infants refused the Nutramigen when it was offered. The investigators told that acceptance of Nutramigen can be attained in older infants, although not ordinarily on the first presentation.

The sources of DHA and ARA in Nutramigen are well tolerated. In clinical studies comparing babies fed formulas including LIPIL with infants fed formulas without LIPIL, there were no Clinically significant differences in tolerance and the add-on of LIPIL had no effect on the incidence of adverse cases.The sources of DHA and ARA in Nutramigen LIPIL are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for use in infant formulas by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
